A “cease & desist” letter is a demand to an individual, business, or other entity that they stop engaging in conduct that is violating your legal rights. If another party is doing something harms you — patent, trademark, and copyright infringement, talking and other forms of harassment, libel and slander, and breach of contract, among other things — a cease & desist letter may help resolve the matter. Ostensibly, these letters inform the offending party that if they do not stop engaging in the harmful conduct, further legal action will be taken.
